12.04.2010

The same booklet receives already the second international award:

A Finnish stamp booklet depicting explorer Adolf Nordenskiöld has received second prize in the competition for the most beautiful stamp in 2008. The results have now been published now in early 2010.

The competition participants included a total of 60 stamp publications from around the world. The winners were selected by the arranging committee of the Austria-based Vienna International Philatelic Exhibition (WIPA). The winner was a stamp from Liechtenstein, depicting a painting from 1836 of the two-year-old sleeping princess Marie von Liechtenstein. A booklet depicting Nordic mythology received third place.

The second-place Finnish booklet was published in 2008. The theme of the booklet is Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld, a Finnish-born scientist and explorer. The booklet has two stamps, one with a picture of Nordenskiöld, and the other depicting his research vessel, the Sofia. The stamp was designed and engraved by Martin Mörck from Sweden. The booklet is a joint publication with Post Greenland.

Last year, the same stamp depicting the research vessel was chosen as the most beautiful engraved stamp in the European Union. The selection was made in Belgium as part of the Grands Prix de l' Art Philatèlique competition. A total of 101 competed for victory.
